Accessibility Statement
Tilbury lodge is situated in a leafy suburb of the city of dreaming spires, Oxford, at the foot of Cumnor Hill. We aim to continually provide a high level of accommodation, having recently refurbished the rooms to provide a “contemporary meets country house ”. We want you to feel relaxed and comfortable in our home and aim to meet the needs of all our guests. There are two steps from the car park up to the front door. Rooms in the house are on different levels and narrow doors make it unsuitable for wheelchair users.
Pre-arrival
- There is a bus stop 100 metres from Tilbury lodge and another at the nearest pub. There is a very frequent bus service into the city
- The main train station is on a direct bus route about one and half miles away. Taxis are available at the station
- The main bus station, Gloucester Green, is about one and half miles away. There is a taxi rank in Gloucester Green
- There are several local taxi companies; we can make bookings in advance for you

- We are lucky to have three local restaurants and a pub within an 8 minute walk; we are happy to make bookings for you
- There are several excellent pubs within minutes drive; The Trout, The Fishes, the Bear and Ragged Staff, & the Perch
- Oxford offers a wide choice of restaurants to cater for all tastes, please do not hesitate to ask our help if you wish to book in advance. We have tried most of them over the years!
Arrival and Car Parking
- Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so that we can be here to welcome you
- Please contact us from airports if your flight is very delayed, particularly at night
- Check in time is from 2.00 pm to 9.00 pm and check out is 10.00 am. Early arrival to leave luggage is possible by arrangement
- Parking is in our private walled car park in front of the house, please park accordingly as directed
- Car park and front of house are well illuminated at night
- We offer assistance with luggage
Main entrance
- There are two steps of 58 cm x 13 cm and 77 cm x 11 cm up to the front door
- The front door is always locked; please ring the doorbell on your arrival. There is a recess over the front door to shelter you from any inclement weather
- There is a small step over of 13 cm as you enter the house
- Guests register and are then escorted to rooms and facilities explained
Guest accommodation – Public areas
- On entry to our home there is a long hallway past a reception desk that leads to the breakfast room and conservatory beyond, all on the ground floor
- There is a step over from the conservatory onto a wooden deck and one step down to the garden
- Corridors are painted in light colours and are well lit at all times. Lights are fitted with low energy bulbs
- The flooring on all corridors and stairs are all short pile carpet. The breakfast room is tiled
- There are 14 stairs measuring 24 cm width by 18 cm leading up to the first floor
- The house is centrally heated throughout but temperatures can be adjusted in each room to suit individual requirements
Conservatory Lounge and Breakfast Room
- The breakfast room and conservatory lounge are both on the ground floor
- Door width to breakfast room 72 cm
- Guests are welcome to use the Conservatory lounge, access by sliding door from dining room
- The lounge has two sofas and two conservatory wicker chairs
- A selection of local information, maps and magazines are available in the lounge and reception
- A fireplace heater keeps the conservatory warm in winter. Ceiling blinds and fan keep it cool in summer, although there are double doors which are open in the summer to the deck and garden
- Breakfast is served between 8.00 am and 9.00 am Monday to Friday and between 8.30 am and 9.30 am Saturday and Sunday. We are happy to provide a continental breakfast tray for those catching early flights
Bedrooms
- There are nine bedrooms, three of which are on the ground floor, all fitted with short pile carpets
- All rooms have en - suite facilities, fitted vinyl floors, all toilet seat heights are 43 cm and all with heated towel rails
- All rooms have flat screen televisions
- Wireless internet access is available in all rooms
- Beverage tray and bottled water provided
- We also provide a hairdryer, sewing materials, tissues and selection of brochures
- Our beds are normally made with synthetic duvets and all pillows are synthetic
- Feather pillows can be provided on request
- We are happy to provide sheets and blankets if preferred
- There is a folder in each bedroom which contains further information about the area and details of emergency contacts
- Details are also provided for night emergency contact and fire drill and escape routes
Bedroom 1
- Bedroom 1 is on the ground floor, on right side of hallway, 1 metre from front door
- This room has a super king bed with access from both sides
- Besides bedroom furniture, there are two armchairs, coffee table and desk and chair
- The en suite has a toilet basin, large walk-in shower and roll top bath
- Tiled floor
Bedroom 2
- Bedroom 2 is on the ground floor at the end of the passage
- Windows overlook garden to rear of house
- This room can has a king size bed, can be accessed from both sides
- Besides bedroom furniture there is a desk and chair
- The en suite has a bath, toilet and basin and bath step of 45 cm
Bedroom 3
- Bedroom 3 is on the ground floor immediately in front of you
- Windows overlook front of the house
- This room has a double bed and can be accessed from both sides
- There is bedroom furniture and desk with chair
- The en suite has a toilet, basin and shower, step 25cm
Bedroom 4
- Bedroom 4 is on the first floor to the left at the top of the stairs
- This room has a king size bed with access from both sides
- There is a desk with chair, in addition to bedroom furniture
- Windows overlook the front of the house
- Large bathroom with roll top bath, basin and toilet, bath height of 60 cm
Bedroom 5
- Bedroom 5 is on the first floor immediately in front of you at the top of the stairs
- Overlooks the garden to rear of house
- This room has a king size bed with access from both sides
- There is usual bedroom furniture and a desk with chair
- There is a shower, toilet and basin
Bedroom 6
- Bedroom 6 is on the first floor at the end of the passage
- Windows overlook garden to rear of house
- This room has a king size bed and can be accessed from both sides
- There is bedroom furniture and a desk with chair
- The en suite has a toilet, basin and shower
Bedroom 7
- Bedroom 7 is on the first floor to the right at the top of the stairs and down a short hallway
- This room has a super king bed with access from both sides
- There is chair and desk in addition to bedroom furniture
- The en suite has a large shower, toilet and basin
Bedroom 8
- Bedroom 8 is on the first floor immediately in front of you at the top of the stairs
- Windows overlook garden to front of the house
- This room has a super king bed with access from all around
- There is usual bedroom furniture, desk and chair. There is a large shower, toilet and Basin
Bedroom 9
- Bedroom 9 is on the first floor at the end of the passage, at the top of the stairs
- Windows overlook garden to rear of house
- This room has king size bed with access from both sides of the bed
- There is usual bedroom furniture, desk with chair
- There is a large shower, toilet and Basin
Outside
- We have a large beautiful garden with lawns, flower beds and fruit trees
- Guests are welcome to enjoy our garden between 9.00 am and 12 noon and from 4.00 pm onwards unless requested not to due to a private family function
- Access to the garden is either via the door from the conservatory or from the sides of the house through gates
- Garden chairs and tables are available for guests
Additional information
- Mobile phone reception is generally good
- Tilbury Lodge is a non-smoking establishment, smoking is allowed in the garden, ashtray provided
- We are happy to cater for special diets, please advise us of these before arrival
- Full Fire Certificate held and regular maintenance checks carried out on fire alarm system, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers on each level of the building
- In the event of a fire, the fire alarm will ring continuously, please advise if you have a hearing Impairment and might not hear this. There is an evacuation route plan in each bedroom
- Evacuation point is in the driveway at the front of the house

Hours flexible to business, the B&B is our home so occupied 24 hours, but it helps us if you could telephone us if you are likely to arrive much earlier or later than your estimated arrival time. Local reliable taxi numbers: ABC 01865 775577, Radio Taxis 01865 242424.
Cancellation policy
If you need to cancel for any reason, we require 72 hours notice prior to arrival date and for Group bookings at least one week prior to arrival. We will charge for the first night of the tariff as a cancellation fee if we are not notified. We are sure you will appreciate a small business cannot absorb the cost of cancellations or non-arrivals.
Data protection
If you contact us by telephone, email or letter and provide us with any personal data, this information will only be used in the course of providing a service to you. We will not send unsolicited communications to you unless you specifically give your consent. Also, we will not pass any of your personal information on to third parties.
